Azerbaijan, which successfully continues its foreign policy by expanding its relations with the countries of the world, including the great powers of Europe, once again confirms that it is a reliable and proven partner by giving great importance to cooperation. Azerbaijan plays an important role in diversifying Europe’s energy sources and ensuring energy security.
The cooperation relations established with the countries of the world and Azerbaijan in various fields have an impact on the establishment and continuous development of interstate mutual understanding. In the last 20 years, as a result of the purposeful and wise foreign policy conducted by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the number of countries in the world that have established friendship and alliance relations with Azerbaijan has increased. Today, diplomatic relations established at the level of mutual trust with world states are at a high stage.
As a result of the policy implemented by the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the relations between our country and the countries of the world are getting closer.
As President Ilham Aliyev stated in his speech at the 10th meeting of ministers within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council and the 2nd meeting of the ministers within the framework of the Green Energy Consultative Council in Baku on March 1, there was and still is a great demand for Azerbaijani gas from the European Union. According to the head of state, the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor and any other natural gas projects should be implemented in such a way that our main goal is not harmed. Of course, the steps taken in the direction of diversification of gas supply are very important.
In our country, the active work of the European Union in the field of gas supply, as well as the Strategic Partnership document in the field of Energy signed between the EU and Azerbaijan are particularly important. Energy security for a number of European countries is also ensured through the Southern Gas Corridor. Azerbaijan’s natural gas export to the European Union market is increasing in the modern world.
Of course, the steps taken in the direction of diversification of gas supply are very important. Thus, the Southern Gas Corridor has the potential to double gas supply. “The Southern Gas Corridor has been operating for 3 years now, this project is truly a success story. It is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Eurasia,” the President said, adding that this project, which is an integrated pipeline system with a length of 3,500 kilometers, is an energy security and cooperation project. : “Because this project would not be possible without cooperation between all the countries located along the route of the Southern Gas Corridor”.
It should be noted that the annual transmission capacity of TAP, which is the European part of TANAP, built as part of the Southern Gas Corridor, is estimated at 10 billion cubic meters, and it is planned to double the transmission capacity of this pipeline. Investments are expected to increase as the EU countries expand the purchase of Azerbaijani gas.
The realization of the Southern Gas Corridor, made possible by the political will of President Ilham Aliyev, is one of the most important initiatives not only for the region, but for the whole of Europe. It’s no secret that the gas flow to Europe goes through the Southern Gas Corridor, and compared to 2021, it is 46 percent more. Based on statistical indicators, we can say that in 2023, the European Union received 11 billion cubic meters of stable and safe gas supply from Azerbaijan.
Let’s emphasize that the Black Sea submarine electric cable will play a decisive role in ensuring a sustainable energy transmission chain, and the submarine cable project to be laid from the bottom of the Black Sea is an important step in terms of ensuring energy security in a broader way. Azerbaijan will again come to the fore in the international arena and the eyes of the whole world will be directed to Baku.
At the meeting, our head of state also drew attention to the fact that Azerbaijan will host the COP29. Today, as a reliable and responsible member of the international community, Azerbaijan contributes to the fight against the consequences of climate change. One of the five national priorities for socio-economic development of Azerbaijan until 2030 is defined as “Country of clean environment and green growth”. In accordance with that priority, work is being done to improve the environment, restore and increase greenery, and ensure efficient use of water resources and sustainable energy sources.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – the unanimous decision to hold a prestigious event such as COP29 in Azerbaijan is a sign of great respect and trust for Azerbaijan by the international community, as well as for our country’s national, regional and global level of environmental protection, climate is a clear example of appreciation of his contribution to the prevention of changes.
Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29, one of the world’s largest and most important interstate events, in 2024 is the goal of President Ilham Aliyev.
