An event dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad and Defenders of the Fatherland Day was held in Moscow

On February 19, by the veteran organization “Union of Heirs of the Great Victory named after Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Guard Major General Hazi Aslanov”, the 95th Guards Rifle Division in Moscow, Marinsk School No. 1566 in memory of the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad and the 3rd Guards An event dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory and Defenders of the Fatherland Day was held in the Stalingrad Mechanized Tank Corps.

Pride of the General Great Victory unites the Russian and Azerbaijani peoples. The names of Azi Aslanov, Balaoghlan Abbasov and other heroes of bloody battles are written in golden letters in the history of Russia and Azerbaijan.

Faced with the stubborn resistance of the Soviet troops, realizing that the attempt to quickly conquer Moscow, the heart of the Union state, failed, Hitler turned his attention to the south of the country. The goal of the Nazis was to undermine Soviet industry, for this German troops had to seize the oil fields in Azerbaijan and the Volga, the main transport artery through which fuel was delivered to the European part of the country.

However, on July 17, 1942, the defenders of Stalingrad, where the largest land battle in human history began, prevented these plans from being realized. If everything went as planned by the enemy and Azerbaijan fell into the hands of the Germans, where almost the entire oil and fuel industry of the country is concentrated, then it is difficult to say what the further course of the war would be.

Battles for the city lasted for 200 days. At the cost of great losses and incredible bravery, the fraternal nations of the Commonwealth defeated the fascist troops and completely changed the course of World War II. It is difficult to assess the impact of that victory on the subsequent history, because it was after Stalingrad that the Red Army took the initiative, the fascist regimes in many countries were shaken, and the countries that had maintained their neutrality until then finally decided to recognize Germany as an aggressor.

73 years separate us from those events, but the lessons of history are still remembered. The main thing is that only the people who liberated together could expel the invaders. In the battles of Stalingrad, the fighters did not ask each other’s nationality. Therefore, the history of victory has become a memorable history not only in Russia. Azerbaijan also honors its heroes. If we do not take into account those who worked incredibly hard on the rear front, every fifth Azerbaijani participated in the Great Patriotic War.

In his speech, the chairman of the veteran organization “Union of Heirs of the Great Victory named after Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Guard Major General Hazi Aslanov” Ali Kazimov said: “In every oil plant of Baku, “In every well is our Stalingrad!” had a slogan. Residents of Azerbaijan made a personal deposit worth 17 million to the defense fund, and a tank column and an aviation squadron were built with this money.

About 500 Azerbaijanis were awarded for the defense of Stalingrad. The names of many heroes from the Land of Fire are known all over the world today”.

At the event, Irina Silina Moscow, deputy chairperson of the organization of the National Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis of the Western Administrative District of Moscow, Zaur Pashayev, adviser to the Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia, Yegor Igorevich Anisimov, the chairman of the Moscow branch of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, veterans of the Second World War Rokhlina Maria Mikhailovna, Ryazantsev, Lytkin Ivan Petrovich, Pronin Vasili Gavrilovich, Rykhlov Fedor Fedorovich, Kornyshev Valentin Sergeyevich, Elshan Ibrahimov, Chairman of the Regional National-Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis of the Moscow Region, Nikitas Tatyana Evdokimovna, Deputy of the Moscow Regional Duma, representatives of veterans and public organizations, activists of the Azerbaijani diaspora of Moscow and Moscow Region participated.

Those who spoke at the event remembered the survivors, those who still clearly hear the sound of the bomb exploding at night, and all those whose names are immortalized in granite monuments and obelisks, and paid their respects to them.
